Character NAME: Virus
Canon & MEDIUM: Dramatical Murder | Game
Canon PULL-POINT: Ren’s Bad Ending 2 – Aoba is rescued as Trip and Virus disappear.
Character AGE: Not stated in canon, but probably around late twenties
Character ABILITIES: Virus does not have any special abilities or strange powers.
Character HISTORY:
Virus is an inhabitant on the island of Midorijima, which is an island off of Japan. The island is divided into two sections that are as different as night and day. The first is Platinum Jail, which is a place for rich and affluent to party regardless of the time. Platinum Jail was created by the Toue Corporation as a place to have fun, but that is only on the surface. It also serves as a research facility that looks into how to control people, and to do this they use the people in the Old District of Midorijima. The Old District is comprised of people that refused to leave Midorijima when the Toue Corporation bought the island and offered to compensate the old inhabitants to leave. Only one third of the island was taken over by Toue while the rest became the Old District, but this left the Corporation plenty of test subjects.
The people in the Old District are very resilient for everything that they are put through due to refusing to leave the island when the Toue Corporation gave them an offer to relocate. Virus is one of the people that grew up on Midorijima, and ended up working for the Yakuza along with another man by the name of Trip. The Yakuza is another power team and like the police force and other power groups they do work hand in hand with the Toue Corporation.
For his part, Virus along with Trip are the leaders of a Rib game team by the name of Morphine. Rib is short for Ribsteez which is a game that people in the Old District play. Each team has a logo which they paint on their turf, and as tattoos on their bodies. The teams in the Old District then gather and fight turf wars. Morphine is a team that played Rib and was rumored to have disappeared into thin air. It was also said to be one of the strongest teams during its time. After a while people even talk as if Morphine was a mythical team, but it is very much a real team and comprised of people that were brainwashed and used by the Toue Corporation.
This does not mean that Virus is truly beholden to Toue in any way which is shown in one of Ren’s bad endings. After revealing himself as one of the leaders of Morphine, Virus then let his followers beat up Aoba. I’m taking him from Ren’s second bad ending where Aoba is rescued by his friends while Virus and Trip disappear from the scene.
There is another Dramatical Murder game that has come out called Dramatical Murder: Reconnect that gives more background information into Virus’s past. A description of the path has been written up here: http://chocolatemix.wordpress.com/2013/06/08/dramatical-murder-reconnect-secret-characters-route/
Character PERSONALITY:
Virus is a very dangerous type of character. He is the type that can smile while stabbing someone in the stomach and continue the conversation as they bleed out. He is part of the Yakuza, but doesn’t come off as scary or even abnormal. It’s only when he does something like working with Toue or even having the members of Morphine beat up Aoba in the Oval Tower that anyone would notice anything off. During the reveal to Aoba that they worked with Toue, Virus smiled and patiently explained everything to Aoba as he is restrained and beat up by the members of Morphine and also his protégé Trip. This is his same demeanor as if he were to talk to Aoba or anyone else on the street. This is what makes him abnormal even if he seems perfectly okay otherwise.
In reality Virus is a very emotionally empty and hollow individual who only takes interests in people or things that can fill the boredom inside of him. Everything he does from working with Toue and his corporation or even keeping tabs on Aoba is all for his amusement and enjoyment. He is the type of person willing to dump anything for a more interesting time. His relationship with Aoba is proof of this because he learns that Aoba was born with a special gift called “scrap” and after Virus does some information into Aoba’s past he finds that Sei, who is with Toue, is actually Aoba’s older twin brother. He and Trip had first seen Aoba violently beating someone in Rhyme (a game much like Rib only virtual) and took an interest in him. Virus continues to watch Aoba stumble around to learn the truth of his own existence because it’s interesting. However, besides Aoba, anyone else who becomes boring is right away thrown to the side for something more interesting. This is his just how Virus operates.
His most meaningful relationship is with Trip, who acts as the brawn to Virus’s brains. Where Virus has no problem extensively explaining things in a polite tone, Trip is less formal and wordy than his counterpart. This is shown when Virus explains to Aoba his past and about his older brother Sei. Virus is the more vocal of them, letting Trip normally handle the fighting if both of them are involved in a situation. Trip is the one that beats on Aoba along with the members of Morphine as Virus watches on. They share everything down the middle, but this leaves no room for anyone else until Aoba catches the duos interest. In one of the endings they end up kidnapping and sharing Aoba together confirming this mentality. However, being very detached if Trip is not around, it is not the end of the world just an inconvenience he has to rectify.

First PERSON:
[Virus smiles at the camera, sitting straight, both hands in front of him as he raises his brows.]
I must admit I was a little surprised to end up somewhere like this, however I think it’s interesting. Being brought to another world, given a weapon, an allowance, and a place to live in return for helping this group out sounds like something out of a game, doesn’t it?
Tell me, what is the general feeling of this? I’m curious. Does everyone just go along, or is there some reluctance to listen to our hospitable employers? Because in the end isn’t that all we are?
Employees to serve a purpose.
How rude of me. I am Virus; I can’t expect you to answer my questions without giving an introduction in return. I look forward to hearing your answers.
Third PERSON:
“Time to explore.” Virus tugged on his tie as he stood beside the door of his home as he gave one last look at himself in the mirror before exiting. Taking a look down the street, a soft sigh left his lips before his normal smile plastered itself to his face. Meandering down the street, his hands in his pockets, Virus let his eyes roam over the streets and buildings noting how dirty the outside looked. His smile turned into a small smirk, eyes darkening as he moved.
Hm. It reminds me a lot of the Old District. Interesting.
Humming at the back of his throat, Virus stood back making sure not to touch the building behind him watching the people around him as they passed by. Silently he continued to stare at the people passing by him as he looked down the street. “If the exterior is same, then there are bound to be the same type of people.”
People like him and maybe even like Aoba. After talking on the network there had been a couple of individuals that stuck out of his mind, but he had other things to attend to at the moment.
I need to figure out where to put myself. What is going to be the most interesting avenue to pursue. Ahh, I wonder who will come out first and show their fangs. The prospect of that alone excites me.
Shaking his head he continued to travel, Virus noticed someone across from him, eyebrows raising as he smiled and started to tail the individual down the street. As the person paused, Virus reached out touching the other on his arm gently before stepping to the side to talk to him, “Hello there. I couldn’t help but notice you seem to know your way around here. I am new myself and would appreciate if we could talk for a moment about what you know. I’m sure I can eventually repay your help with some of my own.”
